What is Gout? Plus a Natural Remedy to provide relief!

Posted by Administrator on 2/20/2013

Gout is a type of joint pain (a form of arthritis), usually limited to one or two joints (often the base of the big toe, but it can occur in any joint) caused by excess levels of uric acid in the body (hyperuricemia). This used to be called the rich mans disease because it often accompanied lavish diets.

In cases of gout, either the body is producing too much uric acid, or the body has become inefficient as excreting uric acid in the urine. When too much uric acid infiltrates the fluid in the joint, uric acid crystals form causing the joint to become inflamed, painful and tender typically red and hot to the touch. The onset of the pain is usually sudden and can last several days. It isn't unusual for gout to become chronic.

Gout affects 4 million Americans, and is more common in men, post-menopausal women and those who drink alcohol.  Conventional treatment recommends NSAIDs as soon as the symptoms begin (NSAIDS are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen andindomethacin). Stronger prescription pain killers and drugs to lower the uric acid levels are also sometimes used.

To reduce the likelihood of an attack:
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Foods made from tomatoes, grapes or plums
  • Reduce meat, including organ meats
  • Reduce purine-rich foods (such as oils, legumes, gravies, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower and yeast)
  • Lose weight slowly (quick weight loss seems to increase the likelihood of uric acid-related kidney stones)
  • Reduce coffee
  • Increase low-fat dairy intake
  • Eat cherries and blueberries
  • Avoid diuretics
  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid distilled water (it has no minerals)
  • Alkalize (1/2 tsp baking soda in water, twice per day or fruits & vegetables not listed above)
Other triggers for gout may include joint injury, sudden illnesses, surgery, chemotherapy, infection, crash diets and fasting.

Gout can be excruciatingly painful, but is largely controllable through diet management and homeopathic remedies.

MEDIRAL URIC ACID MED is a complex homeopathic remedy that relieves the pain and discomfort associated with gout while providing glandular support for pancreatic function. The ingredients are blended together and potentized to become a powerful new synergistic remedy.  MEDIRAL URIC ACID MED improves conditions characterized by acute inflammation of a joint due to deposits of uric acid crystals. It alleviates general symptoms including swelling in joints, sudden onset of pain, redness and post-inflammation dermatitis.
